The 60-second version

Google is folding Local Services Ads into Google Ads. Law firms move as soon as late 2026, with 14 days’ notice. Your leads come with you; your performance history does not. And from October 1, a missed call can be charged as a lead. Three things are worth doing this week.

MISSED-CALL BILLING FROM OCTOBER 1, 2026

Stop paying for missed calls

This change does not wait for the migration: it applies whether or not your account has moved. Starting October 1, 2026, missed calls inside your business hours and your ad schedule can be billed, and missed calls already weigh on your ranking. Make sure your ad schedule only runs when someone answers, and save the recordings you may need.

What changes, what stays

Most of what a client sees stays the same: the ad, the placement, pay per lead. What changes is where you manage it, how you bid, and what you keep.

TIMING

When it hits law firms

As soon as late 2026, possibly 2027. Google’s own pages disagree, and there is no firm date until your 14-day email. What matters now is who receives that email.

Before the notice: save it

Performance history does not move to Google Ads, and the promised download page was still marked “soon” on October 17, 2026. Save what you would need to judge the change, and write down every setting.

BEFORE THE NOTICE · 3 OF 3

Before the notice: decide it

A few settings decide what you pay for after the move: how practice areas are split, whether general law searches stay on, and what your website says, because Google now writes ad content from it. We are building a free Ad Ethics by State checker; this section will link to it when it ships.

AFTER THE MOVE

After: judge it on signed cases

Google counts every charged lead as a conversion and does not let these campaigns optimize to anything else. Your intake system is the only place a signed case is counted, so that is where LSA gets judged.

Where this comes from

This checklist pulls from a lot of places: Google’s own help pages and developer guides, industry coverage such as Search Engine Roundtable and PPC Land, agency research, and what advertisers report in public forums. Every claim links to the page it came from, and all of them are listed below.

Google changes these rules often. A checker re-reads Google’s help pages on a schedule and flags any change, and we update this page when something moves. Come back before you act, and confirm anything that matters with Google or whoever runs your account.
